Chapter One: Before We Begin

Updated: Mar 27

The Introduction

Hair has always been more than hair.

It is the decision you made at 3 am to finally cut it all off. It is the style your grandmother taught you before she passed. It is the moment you feel like your natural hair isn't cute enough to wear. It is the first time you looked in the mirror and felt like you.

At Tikuri Collection, we believe those moments deserve to be told. Not because they are perfect but because they are real. And somewhere out there, someone needs to hear your story so they know they are not alone in theirs.

That is why we created Hair-Story.

Why This Matters

Hair touches everything. Culture, identity, self-worth, history, and healing. But for too long, those stories have been dismissed, policed, or ignored. Hair-Story exists to change that. This is a space where your journey is documented, honored, and shared with a community that understands what it means to carry your history on your head.

We are not here to rank hairstyles or debate what is beautiful. We are here to listen, learn, and grow together.

The Ground Rules

This community only works if it feels safe. So before you read, share, or comment, understand these three rules. They are non-negotiable.

Rule 1: This Is a Judgment-Free Zone

We are not here to cast stones. Sharing your hair story takes courage. It means opening up about moments that were painful, confusing, joyful, or all three at once. The last thing we will allow is anyone making that harder.

Negativity, shaming, or hurtful comments will not be tolerated in posts, comments, or anywhere in this space. Violations will result in being banned from Hair-Story and from purchasing products from Tikuri Collection. We mean it. Community is the foundation of everything we do and we will protect it.

Rule 2: Keep It Real

Your story is enough. You do not need to perform, exaggerate, or shape your experience into something more dramatic or more palatable for an audience. Hair-Story is built on authenticity. The messy, complicated, beautiful truth of what you have actually lived. Performative or dishonest storytelling undermines every real story shared here. Just show up as you are.

Rule 3: No Unsolicited Advice

If someone shares that they went through a big chop, a relaxer, locs, extensions, or anything else, that is their story and not an invitation for your opinion. Unless someone directly asks for feedback or recommendations, keep your advice to yourself. Respect looks like listening, not fixing. If you want to encourage someone, do that. But let people own their journey without you redirecting it.

How to Share Your Hair-Story

When you are ready to share your story with this community we want to make it as simple and as comfortable as possible. There are no essays required and no pressure to have it all figured out. Just answer these three questions honestly and in your own words. That is your Hair-Story.

There are no right or wrong answers. Share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with. This is your story and you are in complete control of how you tell it.

Question 1: What is one word that comes to mind when you think of your hair? Why that word? And has it always been that word or did something change along the way?

Question 2: If your hair could say one word about you, what would it say?

Question 3: What does your hair story mean to you today?

A Note From Tikuri Collection

We created Hair-Story because healthy hair starts long before the product you put in it. It starts with how you feel about yourself, your culture, and your history. Tikuri Collection oils are designed to nourish your hair through every chapter, but you are the author. We are just here to support the journey.

Welcome to Hair-Story. Tikuri Collection. Where Every Strand Has A Story.
